UNIOSUN STUDENT WINS OLUSEGUN OBASANJO PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY INTER-UNIVERSITY DEBATE
Osun
State University continued its trajectory to becoming a globally competitive
institution and the very best in the country when on Thursday, 2nd of March
2017 it outclassed other participating universities to emerge 1st position at
the Inter-University Debate organized by the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential
Library (OOPL), in commemoration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo's
80th Birthday and the grand opening of the OOPL. The theme of the debate was
"Presidential Libraries will Reduce Leadership Deficit in
Africa".
The UNIOSUN debate team
brilliantly outperformed all other universities by scoring 38 points. BABCOCK
University scored 35 points to win the second position, while King’s University
(KU) finished as second runner up with 32 points.
The event, chaired by
the First lady of Ogun State, Her Excellency Dr Mrs. Olufunsho Amosun, had
in attendance distinguished members of the Nigerian and
international community, amongst whom were the Honourable Minister of
Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, the Executive Governor of Anambra State
(represented by the Commissioner for Education); Amb. Mary Khimulu, a
former Kenyan Ambassador to UNESCO; and former High Commissioner to the
United Kingdom, Dr. Christopher Kolade. The celebrant himself was also in
attendance with his wife Chief Mrs. Bola Obasanjo.
The University was ably
represented by: Ogundele
Temiloluwa (Law); Hammed Olalekan (Law); Olatunde Emmanuel (Law); Onatade
Boluwatife (Political Science); Ojieh Precious (Political Science); Ojo
Ebunoluwa (Linguistics & Communication Studies); and Balogun
Hanifat (Education & Political Science). The team was subjected
to rigorous training under the efficacious supervision of: Dr. Anthony
Kola-Olusanya, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Education; Prof. Victor
Adetimirin; Prof. Adenike Akinjobi; and Dr. Obiseye Obiyemi.
