PARENTS SUPPORT SCHOOL FEES INCREASE FOR UNIOSUN FRESH STUDENTS

Parents of Osun State University students have pledged to cooperate with the University Management  in her introduction of a new school fees regime applicable mainly to the incoming fresh students, beginning from 2017/2018 academic session.  

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Osun state University,  Mallam Yusuf Olaolu Ali (SAN) and a team of the University Management, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola were in attendance at a Parent Forum meeting held on Friday, 20^th October, 2017 in the Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium, Main Campus, Osogbo to brief the parents on the new school fees already approved by Council.

The Pro-Chancellor, while appealing to parents to cooperate with the University said the increase was necessary to save the University from plunging into financial mess as it is no longer getting support from the government. He urged the rich among the parents to support the University financially and partner with it to build hostels within the University campuses as it is safer for students to reside on campus than live off-campus.

The Vice-Chancellor, UNIOSUN,  Professor Labode Popoola assured the parents that the school fees increase would not apply to the existing students till they graduate from the University. He however explained that the University has introduced a unified payment system in which all fees including Departmental, Association and  other related fees will be paid online at once to the University account as this will enable Management to monitor all dues being paid by the students and ensure transparency and accountability in the spending of such money.

The Vice-Chancellor also informed the parents that the University has started the Tertiary Institution Social Health Insurance Programme (TISHIP), which will take effect from 2017/2018 session. He said with a token fee of five thousand naira (N5000.00) from each student per session, the health insurance programme would help the students to have access to free quality healthcare services in the University Health Centres and NHIS-registered hospitals across the country.

He further informed the Forum that student leaders had been fully briefed on the TISHIP, which they all have embraced. The University, according to Professor Popoola, has also introduced a 5% discount in the school fees for students who make full payment before November 20, 2017, which is the resumption date.

He also announced adjustments in the penalty for late registration, which now starts from 5% of the student's school fees in the first two weeks of the stipulated late registration period and gradually increases by 1% every subsequent week.

The parents, who assured the University Management of their full cooperation, thanked the Management for excluding the existing students from payment of the new school fees.
